Lilacs, May 4, 2018

This morning (actually, it was about 1:00 in the afternoon) I saw our next-door neighbor for the first time in weeks. I told him about the shingle going through our window, and pointed out that someone had apparently picked up all of the shingles from our front yard as though to hide the evidence. I also then pointed out that the lilac growing on the side of our porch was almost in bloom - its blooms were out but hadn't taken on their characteristic lilac color yet. Soon, I realized, it would be in full bloom.

"Soon" turned out to be about four hours.

A lucky double capture: the freshly-bloomed lilac already being set upon by a friendly neighborhood bumblebee.

The same lilac from a slightly different angle.

Aaaand the reverse angle. Look at those antennae!

Already the cherry and magnolia blossoms are falling, and the daffodils are fading. But it won't be long until blueberries, azaleas, and irises are in bloom!

Love the photos...and I have a soft spot for Bees (except for the Carpenter Bees...they are jerks).
