Last Rose

Blaze rose, October 28, 2006
There is one last rose in my yard, clinging to the hope that it will find a pollinator to give its brief life some meaning. It is a tiny, stunted thing, little more than an inch across. But it has all the beauty of its Summertime predecessors.

Soon this rose, too, will wither and die. And then Winter will come. But Spring and Summer will return.

We all cling on, hoping that our lives have some meaning. Nice post.

It's a beautiful picture and rose, DB.

Yes, spring and summer after the winter, but don't forget, then another winter, in which everything beautiful will wither and die and fall to the ground to be trampled under foot.

And eventually these cycles will place themselves out, not to mention cascade volcanoes in Yellowstone Park should turn this continent into a wasteland some time in the next five centuries, plus a star went supernova some time in the past 500 years and should be hitting us with three days of x-rays, enough to wipe out quite a bit of life.

And even if we survive that or asteroid collisions or the earth's magnetic poles's swapping, eventually are own sun will expand and boil off the earth's oceans, then the sun collapses and the earth will freeze to death in the dark.

Can you tell I used to know Ron McR?

It's in his honor that I present all these DOOMSDAY scenarios.

And that doesn't even include all the economic doomsday scenarios he'd posit each day.

:)

Hope all's well, DB. Don't know what made me do this. In fact, your rose portrait was quite poignant and contained no hint of the silly exaggerations I just added.

Best.
