Poem: I'm glad my mother is dead

I'm glad my mother is dead

she never had to see this happen again
she never got to see how far we've fallen
she'll never have to look at her friends and neighbors
and wonder which of them chose this

I'm glad my mother is dead

I'll never have to worry about her insurance
or how any of this will affect her
I'll never have to worry about her
worrying about me, or my brother, or my sister, or her grandsons

I'm glad my mother is dead

She's safe in her grave
or gone to her eternal reward
or experiencing the blissful nothingness of non-being
I don't have to worry about her saying "Why won't somebody just shoot the bastard?" in the wrong company

I'm glad my mother is dead
