I'm so much cooler online

I'm not a huge fan of country music. I don't hate it, mostly, but it's not something that would be heavily represented on my iPod playlist...if I had an iPod, which I don't.

Anyway. I've heard this song a few times, I've seen snippets of the video, and I've come across a few references to it here and there on the internet. But yesterday was the first time I saw almost the entire video. It's "Online" by Brad Paisley, and the video is directed by and stars Jason Alexander (of Duckman fame, and that goofy Seinfeld show). It also features William Shatner and Estelle Harris (who played George Costanza's mother on Seinfeld) as the main character's parents, and the ever-gorgeous Maureen McCormick as the girl next door. It's hysterically funny while not being abusive or deragatory, which is quite a trick, given its subject matter.

If you haven't seen it, here is a link to a posting of the video on YouTube. Enjoy!

  1. Too funny. But later it hit me how sexist it is. Yes, the pathetic loser computer-nerd finally gives up his fantasy online personna to live in the "real world"...where the cute skinny blonde next door has a crush on him. If the lovelorn neighbor had been a fat, plain, sci-fi geek bookworm, we would know the video isn't just pandering to the wishful thinking of sexist pathetic loser computer-nerds. Maybe if they set more realistic goals for themselves, they really could find happiness in the "Real World" with real women instead of existing in a fantasy world with mindless adulant barbie dolls. Still, it's a funny and perceptive look at the fantasy world of online "relationships" and the self-delusions we all create in order to survive.

    joy
