See the bottom of this post for details!
So it's not just me. I finally decided to check out the "Details" information that comes up when Firefox crashes, and I keep seeing the same thing being referenced: js3250.dll.
A Google search for js3250.dll shows that this is a common cause of crashes for Firefox users. The symptoms tend to be the same: one day things are running moderately well, the next Firefox crashes, again and again, and eventually refuses to start up.
Help for Firefox is not easy to get. As the great open-source browser, Firefox is really intended for computer Do-It-Yourselfers, propellerhead shade-tree mechanics whose idea of a fun evening involves a lot of time scouring code looking for conflicts. I'm not one of them. I'm a user of technology, not a tinkerer.
Firefox help forums are of limited utility, too. They're basically places where users go and complain about their problems, and Firefox Evangelists drift by and offer solutions. There's a cult-like air to these places that I've noticed elsewhere in the Firefox world: any criticism of Firefox is seen as trolling, and may be grounds for getting tossed out to a place where you shall wail and gnash your teeth. Also, help topics that specifically mention js3250.dll suddenly don't mention it once you click on them. What gives?
The offered solutions that I found scattered around the Mozilla/Firefox site remind me of the time I tried to resolve an issue with Norton SystemWorks, when it decided to take a very aggressive approach to system protection by preventing any files from the Internet from loading onto my computer. I eventually decided to uninstall it from my computer...which required printing out about 200 pages of instructions that absolutely had to be followed in exact order or else my computer might stop functioning entirely.
So. Maybe when I have a lot of free time on my hands and absolutely nothing else to do I'll start to go through the pages and pages of hypertext-linked instructions and see if I can resolve this issue without melting my PC. Until then, I guess I'll be rediscovering the joys of Internet Explorer.

So, you didn't post any solution?
ReplyDeleteNice... trolling!
btw... I still get it on 2.0.0.7
This had me confused too for a minute - then I remembered you have to click on the words "this post" to go to the post with the solution. Only since it's been posted, it looks like maybe it isn't a solution, or at least not a complete one. People keep posting updates there with what works and what doesn't work.
ReplyDeletehi all,
ReplyDeletedon't know if this can help you, but i hope so.
I had the same problem, firefox crash during the session when i open some sites (whit js, ajax and so on...). I had a large amount of memory used by ff too.
The error was in the js3250.dll.
I fixed the problem disabling the AVG antivirus link scanner, that's embedded in ff extension too.
Try this.
Hope this work.
Good Luck
Hi... I starting having Firefox 2.0.0.16 constantly saying it had to close - the culprit being js3250.dll. After trying the different methods here and quite a few other sites too and being unsuccessful fixing the crashes, I figured it was Javascript related - so I uninstalled all 4(!) versions of Java(TM) 6 Update 4,5,6, and 7... then reinstalled just Java(TM) 6 Update 7... and voila!... Firefox now working like a dream!... cheers :)
ReplyDeleteHi again... Oops, forgot to mention I then uninstalled Firefox via Ad and Remove programs, then reinstalled same Ffox version... and I didn't even have to reload all my addons, bookmarks, etc, etc with Feebe, as I thought I would have to... phew :)
ReplyDeleteThans, twice! I've reposted your comments into the body of this entry, which serves as the focal point for comments on this issue:

Hey there. :3
ReplyDeleteUhm, mine is doing that, as well, the whole "js3250.dll error", but when I went to System 32, there wasn't a file with "ipv6monl.dll".
Does that mean I should simply try to do the other ones?
This is kind of a huge pain. ><;;
I finally got so fed up that I ditched Firefox entirely. I now get very annoyed at those who sneer at IE and tout Firefox's superiority.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to check out the bottom of this entry, too. It has more information:
Another Monkey: Computers, bloody computers: Firefox and js3250.dll
Instead of eating crap by using IE, why don't you discover the joys of another browser, maybe Safari? Or perhaps Opera? Maxthon is popular too. K-Meleon is fast and lightweight and great if you don't care about a pretty interface.
ReplyDeleteThere's so many out there, you don't have to get fed up with the one that you hear everyone buzzing about (Firefox) and then go back to the piece of garbage Microsoft shoves down your throat.
Except that Internet Explorer works just fine. What part of using IE consitutes "eating crap", exactly, or makes it a "piece of garbage"?
ReplyDeleteWhy does my internet explorer crash after an embeded video plays on a webpage?
ReplyDeleteSilver MLM, see this entry:
ReplyDeletehttp://anothermonkey.blogspot.com/2009/03/internet-explorer-script-error-line-53.html
I think the problem was eventually narroed down to video from a specific source - embedded hulu videos, I think.
