Fifty years ago today: MLK is murdered

Early morning, April four
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

Fifty years ago today, Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered at his hotel in Memphis, shot by James Earl Ray.

What has changed since then? Where have we gone?

Note: Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot just after 6:00 PM. That would have been 24 minutes before sunset. Late afternoon or early evening, depending on your definition. News of his death might have reached Ireland in the early morning, but it would have been on April 5.
